Short description: The main goal is to resume the state of research concerning present climate changes. It elaborates on basic components of climate system and correlations between them. It teaches how to adapt to climate changes.
Full description: The subject is aimed at introducing students to the knowledge and information in the field of climatology, climate change, causes and effects of these phenomena, as well as showing the possible actions that can be applied in order to adapt to the predicted climate changes. The course will discuss the features of the climate and those condemning its changes, as well as the causes and effects of these changes for the environment, economy and population. Adaptation measures will also be discussed, both in cities, rural areas, sectors of the economy and agriculture. Examples of small-scale water retention, blue-green infrastructure, conscious water management, proper energy management.
Bibliography: Hans Sanderson, Adapting to Climate Change in Europe, 2018 Walter Leal Filho, Handbook of Climate Change Adaptation, 2015 Mark Pelling, Adaptation to Climate Change, 2010
Learning outcomes: The student knows the physical basis that determines the dynamics of the climate system; the impact of climate change on society and the environment; ways of adapting to climate change. Student is able to distinguish differences between weather changes and climate changes; take action to adapt to climate change in agriculture and forestry; develop directions of adaptation activities in sensitive areas.
Assessment methods and assessment criteria: written exam, projects
